Desalination
Products
Our innovative desalination solutions are designed to provide high-quality, reliable water treatment tailored to your specific needs. Discover how we transform saline water into valuable freshwater resources.
At desalination, a water stream is split into two fractions – a fraction with low dissolved matter concentration and a concentrate stream.
The split can be performed through distillation, membrane separation and ion exchange.
We accomplish desalination by the following methods:
Reverse Osmosis
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a membrane based and pressure driven technology applied to separate dissolved components (minerals, salts, organic molecules) from water. It splits a feed stream into a permeate with low and a concentrate with high dissolved matter concentration.
Membranes with different separation characteristics are available for the specific application (seawater, brackish water, nanofiltration…). The main membrane configuration is spiral wound flat sheets housed in pressure vessels. These modules are sensitive to fouling, i.e. the formation of unwanted layers which decrease the water flow through the membranes. Depending on the feed composition and the process design, feed pressures up to 150 bar can be required. The pressure of the concentrate can be recovered by Energy Recovery Devices (ERD) which leads to significant reduction of the overall energy consumption.
Evaporation
Evaporation produces distillate with low dissolved matter and leaves concentrate behind. Our technologies comprise forced-circulation evaporation with mechanical vapor compression as well as vacuum distillers.
Deionisation
Deionisation is the removal of residual ions in order to produce very pure water for steam cycles, hydrogen production or pharmaceutical applications. Our technologies comprise ion exchange and electrodeionisation.
