UNIHA is performing the rehabilitation & modernization of one of the largest drinking water treatment plants on the Easter Balkans.
The project aims at ensuring the availability of clean drinking water for the citizens by improving the overall performance of the plant. Furthermore, the recovery of the plant will be maximized by treating the backwash waste water achieving Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD). Initially, the plant has been built since 1970 in multiple stages and constitutes one of the key plants in the region. Due to deficiencies in the treatment flow and components, the plant requires modernization.
The newly modernized plant (amongst others) consists of the following components:
- Energy recovery from raw water intake
- Raw water screening, pre-chlorination, coagulation
- Decantation, double flow sand filtration with automatic backwash units
- ZLD backwash water recovery
- Product disinfection and pumping station
- Laboratory & Pilot Plant
