The intake was constructed from four wells on the sea shore, from where raw water is pumped to the reverse osmosis plant. The plant has been designed according to the special needs and requirements of the client, including three treated water reservoirs with 1,500 m³/day.
Pressure exchangers are used for optimized RO energy recovery. Considering the evident water shortage in Praia and the limited water supply to the population, it can be expected that water consumption will rise following the successful taking over of the water treatment plant.
All components for the plant located in the capital of the island nation in the Atlantic Ocean were delivered within 12 months following the commencement of the project including the approval procedure.
Necessary financing for the project was developed with support provided by the Austrian Control Bank (OeKB) to the Cape Verde Treasury. In total loans of more than 11 Mio. € have been facilitated.
Given UNIHA’s proven track record in Cape Verde, including previous turnkey projects and Seawater Desalination Container Plants, and recent success in executing projects in challenging environments (not least due to Covid-19), the current pandemic and the measures implemented have not represented any obstacles for UNIHA. Planning, supply, installation & commissioning of the project have all been successfully done in line with all applicable Covid-19 regulations.
The plant is working flawlessly and to the full satisfaction of the client.
UNIHA is proud to have executed yet another successful project in Cape Verde.
